This is a blog supported by students in Dr. Andre E Johnson's African and African American Studies classes at the University of Memphis. It is open to anyone wanting to comment.
At the end of this article I was staring at the screen with my mouth wide open. All I could think about was all the negative comments made about Memphis, Tennessee. I would have never in a million years thought a black woman would be treated ill at a hospital in Upper Manhattan.
ReplyDeleteI am a native Memphian who has given birth to five children in the City of Memphis. Not one of my children's birth has left a sour taste in my mouth. My doctors and nurses were great. I even had a doctor who didn't charge because my youngest daughter was born before she even got to the room (long story). I have always had my own room and some pretty decent hospital food. By the way, my first birth was private pay and the last four were state pay. All five birthing experiences were wonderful. This article is just another reason I want to stay in Memphis, Tennessee. Sure, I'll continue to visit other cities, but this will always be my home.
