Mona Eltahawy: Egypt Proved Change Is Possible, Sexy and Cool!

  1. It was a beautiful thing that happened in Egypt. As Mona Eltahawy says it shows that Muslims are not all volatile. I hope that Egypt continues on to push for their rights. Also, that we, as Americans, get inspired to take a more proactive role in what happens in our government (included myself).

  2. This movement made me happy and sad at the same time.
First, I was inspired to continue to push through any obstacle that was set in front of me to fail. No matter how many years something has been holding you back, if you stand up against it, it will surely fall. Mad respect to the Egyptians and their steadfastness in their faith. Some had to die for their freedom. But if you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything. Reminds me of the Civil Rights movement. (This is a civil rights movement). People (African Americans) died and fought so that I can have an education and succeed beyond societal standards. It is my duty to pay homage to them by fulfilling their dreams.

Which transitions to why I was sad all of a sudden. It's amazing how lazy we have become. We wont fight for freedom. Right now in Memphis, people are pulling their hair out over whether to merge the school systems or not. I'm not going to give my opinion about the issue, but I do not understand why these "leaders" are not putting the children's best interest at heart. It is only a matter of time until Memphis will get tired of being beat down and bamboozled and fight for what they want. We have to come together as a city, not a county, if we want to change this city. We are Memphis, not a county, a city. We need to start where we are, use what we have, and do the best we can.
